The Elizabethan Syngers is a volunteer ensemble open to any musician committed to a high level of music making and collaboration. The Elizabethan Syngers perform Renaissance period secular and religious pieces a capella, with a bit of light-hearted theatrics. Founded in 1971, we are the longest-running musical act at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival.
For auditions, musicality, sight singing, tonal memory and vocal agility are tested through the use of musical examples and exercises. No prepared solo is required. Auditions last approximately 15 minutes. There is no fee required for auditions.
The Elizabethan Syngers rehearse in Saint Paul on Tuesday evenings, 7-9:30pm. Our Renaissance season rehearsals run from mid May to mid August. We perform on weekends from August 18-September 30 at the Minnesota Renaissance Festival in Shakopee, MN. You are not required to sing every weekend. Ability to memorize music is a requirement for the summer season but not for holiday performances. Access to or purchase of an approved madrigal costume is a necessity. Costumes may be borrowed from the ensemble or purchased independently. All music is provided at no cost.
